Arrival at S&T

As a student on a J-1 visa, you may arrive in the US up to 30 days prior to the start date listed on your DS-2019. Upon your arrival in Rolla, please check in with the Office of International and Cultural Affairs, located in 104 Norwood Hall. Bring along your DS-2019, passport with visa, and I-94 card.

Airport

Students should plan to arrive at the St. Louis Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, Missouri.

Transportation

Arrival:

S&T is located in Rolla, MO which is approximately 2 hours from the St. Louis Airport. The Study Abroad Office has arranged for a limited number of shuttles for arriving Exchange Students.  Before booking your flight, please check with the Study Abroad Coordinator for the times available of these free shuttles. You may bring 2 bags plus one carry-on for the shuttle, any extra bags is an additional charge at the student’s expense.

Once you purchase your airplane ticket, please send us your full flight itinerary so your shuttle can be scheduled and confirmed. At a minimum, please allow at least 5 business days for the shuttle to be scheduled.

If you arrive outside the scheduled shuttle times, a local shuttle company, USA Express, can provide transportation from Lambert International Airport (airport code STL) in St. Louis to Rolla. The airport shuttle runs approximately every two hours between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. Regular – Full Rate Shuttle (seat guaranteed): $120.00 USD per person.

Return:

Several shuttle companies and taxi companies provide transportation from Rolla to the airport in St. Louis. Other transportation options include Greyhound Bus and finding a ride with a friend. The cost, if any, of transportation to the airport is the student's responsibility.

Orientation

Our International Student Orientation is held during the second week in August for the Fall semester, or second week of January for the Spring semester. You are strongly encouraged to attend it, but we understand if you cannot make it since it is so early before the start of the semester. To check the date classes will begin, please see S&T Academic Calendar for the particular semester.  If you are not able to arrive for International Student Orientation, mini orientations will be offered later in the semester. 

 

Books

The University Bookstore is located in the Havener Center Student Center. Another privately owned bookstore is also located near campus. Both locations offer new and used textbooks for purchase. Books may be resold to the bookstore at the end of the semester. The cost of books will vary depending on the classes you select. In general, you should plan for approximately $500 per semester for books and supplies.
